Why I Love Photographing Weddings at Greystone Estate
If I had a dollar for every time I’ve driven into Greystone Estate and thought, “I can’t believe this is my job,” I’d probably have enough for a few extra holidays.
There’s just something about this place.
Maybe it’s the fact that everyone is staying together for the weekend. Maybe it’s the sunsets. Maybe it’s because weddings here never seem to feel rushed.
Whatever it is, Greystone has a way of making a wedding feel less like an event… and more like one big weekend away with your favourite people.
It just feels different
Every wedding venue has its own personality.
Some are elegant. Some are modern. Some are all about the views.
Greystone somehow manages to be all of those things while still feeling incredibly relaxed.
There’s no rushing from one location to the next because everything you need is right there. Your favourite people are all in one place, someone is always making another coffee, the playlist is already going, and before you know it, you’re getting ready to marry your favourite person.
It doesn’t feel like you’ve hired a venue.
It feels like you’ve borrowed the most beautiful estate in the Hunter Valley for the weekend and invited everyone you love.
The kind of place where people actually slow down
One thing I’ve learnt after photographing hundreds of weddings is that the best photos don’t happen because I’ve found the prettiest backdrop. They happen because you’ve had a chance to breathe.
You’re not watching the clock all day or wondering what comes next. You actually get time to sit with your bridal party, hug your grandparents, laugh with your mates and soak in the fact that you’re getting married.
That’s what you’ll remember years from now. Not whether the flowers matched the napkins.
Golden hour here is pure magic
Okay… photographers do tend to bang on about golden hour.
But trust me on this one.
When the sun starts dropping behind the vineyards, Greystone absolutely glows.
I’ll usually steal you away for about twenty minutes. That’s it.
No awkward posing. No disappearing for an hour while your guests wonder where you’ve gone.
Just a little wander, a few laughs, maybe a quiet moment together now that you’re officially married, and photos that you’ll probably end up printing for your walls.
Then it’s straight back to the party.
Every corner is beautiful
One of the things I love most about Greystone is that we never have to go searching for beautiful photo locations.
They’re everywhere.
The tree-lined driveway.
The olive grove.
The gardens.
The lake.
The wide open lawns.
Even the walk back to your reception somehow ends up looking beautiful.
It means we spend less time travelling and more time celebrating - which, if you ask me, is exactly how a wedding day should be.
It’s the feeling I’ll always remember
Of course Greystone is beautiful. That’s obvious.
But beautiful venues are easy to find.
What makes Greystone special is the feeling you get when you’re there.
Kids are running around on the lawn.
Someone’s nan is enjoying a wine in the afternoon sun.
Your mates are already planning what song they’re going to request from the DJ.
Nobody’s checking the time.
Nobody wants the weekend to end.
It’s not just a wedding.
It’s a weekend your favourite people will still be talking about years from now.
