I absolutely love a big wedding… but there is something really special about an elopement.

No seating charts. No family politics. No trying to squeeze 100 hugs into five minutes.

Just the two of you (or a handful of your favourite people), getting married in one of the most beautiful places in Australia. The Hunter Valley is honestly made for it.

Why elope in the Hunter Valley?

If you’ve spent any time in the Hunter, you’ll know exactly what I mean. Vineyards everywhere, incredible food and wine, beautiful accommodation, and sunsets that make photographers ridiculously happy.

It’s the kind of place where you can slow down and actually enjoy your wedding day instead of racing from one thing to the next.

This elopement at Spicers Guesthouse was exactly what an elopement should be.

Relaxed.

Intentional.

Full of laughs.

There was no pressure to stick to a strict timeline or entertain a room full of guests. Instead, these two got to spend the day focusing on each other, soaking it all in and celebrating in a way that actually felt like them.

And honestly… that’s my favourite kind of wedding.

You don’t have to follow the “rules”

Somewhere along the way we’ve been told weddings have to look a certain way.

They don’t.

If your dream day is getting married with just your favourite person before heading off for champagne, a long lunch and some sunset photos through the vineyards… then do exactly that.

Your wedding doesn’t need to be big to be meaningful. Sometimes the smallest weddings end up being the ones people remember most.

What I love most about Corunna is that it doesn’t box you in.

It’s a private 100-acre property in the Hunter Valley. You get space. You get quiet. You get sunset that actually looks like sunset - not carpark behind a function centre.

Ceremony under a tree? Done.

Long table in the shed? Beautiful.

Golden hour portraits in the paddocks? Yes please.

It turns into a whole weekend, not just a day

One of the best things about Corunna Station is the onsite accommodation. You can stay in the Homestead, The Cook’s House, or The Country House and actually slow down.

Wake up together. Have coffee in your trackies. Get ready without rushing. Eat pizza the night before with your people.

Micro weddings here feel like a getaway that just happens to include a wedding.

Corunna is a dream to photograph. The textures, the soft country light, the open skies - it all works without you needing to “do” much.

Micro weddings especially photograph so beautifully because you’re not pulled in 47 directions. You actually get time. Time for portraits. Time for hugs. Time for those in-between moments that matter.

MATTHEW & VANESSA'S Elopement - CIRCA 1876 & THE CONVENT - HUNTER VALLEY

 

Matthew and Vanessa both work in the travel industry and together they have been to some of the most amazing places throughout the world, but it was the Hunter Valley that stole their hearts for their secret elopement. Circa 1876 and The Convent truly transforms throughout each season of the year. The soft winter light and seasonal colours provided the most glorious backdrop for their day.

It was such a pleasure to capture the honesty, emotion and intimacy of their ceremony with the only witnesses being Matthew's parents (who had travelled from the U.K) and Vanessa's Mum and Step Dad.
