Ashlea & Josh | Enzo Wedding

ASHLEA & JOSH’S ENZO WEDDING - HUNTER VALLEY

Some weddings are perfectly polished. Others are wildly fun.And some feel like a really good party that just happens to include a marriage.

Ashlea and Josh’s wedding at Enzo Weddings was all of the above - stylish, heartfelt, and absolutely bursting with energy. Set in the heart of the Hunter Valley, their day was a perfect mix of modern romance and joyful chaos (cue the flower boys), the kind that leaves your cheeks sore from smiling.

The morning started calm but excited, with that delicious nervous energy buzzing quietly in the background. Ashlea was glowing in that effortlessly confident way, the kind that doesn’t need direction. Josh was relaxed, laughing… until the moment he saw her. That was it. Composure gone out the window.

Their ceremony was intimate, emotional, and beautifully grounded. No theatrics - just meaningful words, lingering glances, and two people completely present with each other. Enzo Weddings provided the dreamiest backdrop, with clean architectural lines and warm light that made every moment feel elevated without ever feeling stiff.

A sparkler exit that felt straight out of a movie, champagne popping with zero restraint, and a vintage red car that turned heads. The bridal party understood the assignment and delivered big - laughter, arms wrapped tight, and moments that unfolded naturally and wildly.

Inside the reception space, chandeliers glowed as speeches bounced between hilarious and heartfelt. Glasses were raised, tears were shed, and the room erupted when Ashlea and Josh sealed it all with a kiss that earned a full standing ovation.

What made this wedding truly special wasn’t just how stunning it looked (although Enzo Weddings absolutely showed off). It was how it felt. Relaxed. Joyful. Full-bodied happiness. The kind of day where everyone knew they were part of something really good.

Ashlea and Josh didn’t just get married- they threw one hell of a celebration, and it was an absolute joy to capture every second.

Bella & Liam | Tocal Homestead Wedding

BELLA & LIAM’S TOCAL HOMESTEAD WEDDING - HUNTER VALLEY

Some weddings are elegant.
Some are emotional.
And some are just unapologetically bold in the best possible way.

Bella and Liam’s wedding at Tocal Homestead was all of the above.

Set against the historic sandstone buildings and sprawling countryside, their day felt timeless and editorial - but with a very modern, very Bella twist. From champagne sprayed straight into the night sky to a dance floor that absolutely refused to calm down, this wedding was a celebration in every sense of the word.

Tocal Homestead is one of those venues that just gets it. Soft winter light, heritage textures, and endless pockets for intimate moments.

Bella looked unreal walking through the grounds in her gown, lace veil catching the light, tattoos on show, completely herself. There’s something powerful about a bride who doesn’t tone herself down for tradition - and Bella did not tone it down even slightly.

Liam, in his deep green suit, matched her energy perfectly. Grounded, emotional, quietly obsessed with her. The way these two looked at each other all day said everything.

We leaned into the contrast - soft, romantic portraits followed immediately by absolute party energy. One minute it’s forehead kisses in the gardens, the next it’s champagne straight from the bottle and laughter echoing off the walls.

The reception space was transformed into a warm, glowing party cave — disco balls hanging overhead, reflections bouncing everywhere, music pumping, drinks flowing. Bella & Liam busted into their reception while HOT TO GO was blaring, then were joined by every guest as they sang their hearts out.

The dance floor filled fast and stayed full. No awkward standing around. No polite swaying. Just people fully committing, which is always my favourite thing to photograph.

Bella has a strong personal style, and it showed in every detail - but nothing felt staged or forced. The day was intentional, personal and had me thinking - is this really my job?

And those are always the weddings that photograph best.

Gen & Lach | Leaves & Fishes Wedding

GEN & LACH’S LEAVES & FISHES WEDDING- HUNTER VALLEY

Gen & Lach were married at Leaves & Fishes, and honestly, it was one of those days that makes you slow down just by being there. The kind of wedding where time feels a little softer, conversations run longer than planned, and everyone forgets what hour it is (in the best way). Wrapped in greenery, water, and their favourite people, the day felt intimate, grounded, and quietly special from the very start.

They did things in a way that felt completely true to them - unfussy, thoughtful, and centred on connection rather than tradition for tradition’s sake. Portrait time felt more like a wander and a chat than a photoshoot, with plenty of laughter, gentle moments, and those in-between glances that don’t need direction. No rushing, no big production - just Gen & Lach being very much themselves and enjoying every second.

As the sun dipped and the fairy lights flickered on, the celebration settled into that unmistakable Leaves & Fishes magic. Long tables, clinking glasses, relaxed conversations. It was warm, soulful, and deeply joyful — the kind of wedding that reminds you that the best days aren’t about doing more, they’re about feeling more.

Mikaela & Tom | Peterson House Wedding

MIKAELA & TOM’S PETERSON HOUSE WEDDING - HUNTER VALLEY

Mikaela & Tom tied the knot at Peterson House, and from the very beginning the day felt relaxed, joyful, and refreshingly un-serious (in the best possible way). I photographed Mikaela’s sister's wedding a few years ago, so it was wonderful to see their family again. There was plenty of laughter woven through the quieter moments, happy chaos in between, and that unmistakable feeling of two people genuinely excited to be marrying each other.

They planned their day around actually enjoying it - spending time with their favourite people, sneaking away for relaxed portraits without disappearing for hours, and soaking up the moment rather than watching the clock. Nothing felt rushed or overly structured, which meant the day unfolded naturally, with lots of those blink-and-you-miss-them moments that end up being the most meaningful.

Their reception at Peterson House felt less like a formal wedding and more like a fun family reunion. It was warm, fun, full of laughter, and a perfect reflection of Mikaela & Tom - easygoing, connected, and completely focused on having a great time with the people they love. You know it’s been a good one when it’s time for me to leave and the bride is on the table!

Aly & Chrys | Greystone Estate Wedding

Aly & Chrys’ Greystone Estate Wedding - Hunter Valley

Aly & Chrys held their wedding day at Greystone Estate. From getting ready through to reception, they even stayed a few days on either side of their wedding day with their family and a few friends to make a whole weekend of celebrations.

Aly & Chrys did things a little differently for their day (and boy was it incredible!) They did a ‘first look’ where they shared the special moment of seeing each other on their wedding day for the first time - away from everyone else, just the two of them together soaking it all up!

Instead of walking down the aisle in a traditional sense with a parent, Aly & Chrys entered the ceremony together, much to the delight of their friends and family who were cheering, crying and clapping their hearts out.

Aly & Chrys also didn’t have a wedding party, just the two of them! This meant their preparation time was simple and straightforward. It also meant their time taking portraits together was just about them. They didn’t have to worry about the logistics of wrangling people that are already a few drinks deep into the celebrations.

They entered their reception and went straight into their first dance, before the band invited every single guest up to dance with them for a few songs! I absolutely loved this, it was like a scene straight from a movie and created such a buzz for the rest of the evening.

Lastly, they also didn’t have a lineup of speeches, just one quick ‘thank you’ before dinner to all of their guests then it was straight back to mingling and the good times.

Aly and Chrys’s wedding was the epitome of weddings for me, simple and focused on the important things; each other and their friends and family.

Sam & Sammy | Peterson House Wedding

Sam & Sammy’s Peterson House WEDDING - HUNTER VALLEY

When I think of the ‘perfect Hunter Valley Wedding’ Peterson House always comes to mind. With the ability to have a beautiful indoor ceremony in the breathtaking chapel, cocktail hour in the fun filled courtyard, portraits around the stunning grounds and a huge space to suit all of your guests for dinner and dancing, it’s the perfect choice. Sam & Sammy obviously agreed too, celebrating their day with their favourite people with Peterson house playing host for their winter wedding.

When I spoke to Sam & Sammy prior to their wedding they said how important it was to them to actually spend time with their guests, for everyone to have a really fun night and not to have to immediately rush off after the ceremony. When planning their day, Sam & Sammy made sure they had a full hour to spend with their guests before even thinking of heading off for anything photo related and I loved this for them! Seeing them be able to chat, connect and celebrate with their guests is really what it’s all about.

All of the best spots at Peterson House are all in walking distance - we grabbed a drink once the sun was at it’s best and strolled around the venue. Sam & Sammy’s wedding party was such a great bunch of humans, laughing and bantering their way through the photos, not taking it too seriously and genuinely having a good time (and nailing the champagne shot, by the way!)

The night was fulled with speeches that made out cheeks hurt and a dance floor with quite literally every single guest up busting a move (I’m sure I saw Nan doing the sprinkler). Hats off to Venus Band who is always a crowd pleaser! I know Sam and Sammy were really excited about having them there on the day and they did not disappoint!

I had such a fun day and it meant the world to me that both of their parents took the time to thank me as I was leaving.

Thank you so much for having me!

Mel x

P.S It’s no secret that winter weddings are all the rage, for so many reasons! It’s not stinking hot (no sweating in suits, yuck) everyone is comfortable and cosy, and photography wise the lighting is *chef’s kiss* - the lighting is softer in winter, the most glorious sunsets and timed to perfection so all of the portraits are done just before you enter your reception.

Georgia & Zack | Redleaf Wedding

Georgia & Zack’s Redleaf Wedding - Wollombi

Before I go into detail about Georgia and Zack’s day, I just want to touch on Redleaf for a moment.
This year marks my my 11th year of photographing weddings in the Hunter Valley and it’s reasonable to say I’ve visited my fair share of venues in that time. Though, I have to say, Redleaf would have to be the most breath taking wedding venue in the Hunter Valley. This was my first time shooting a Redleaf Wedding and it absolutely blew my mind. When people say “it’s like another world”, it really isn’t an exaggeration.

IT 👏 IS 👏BEAUTIFUL! 👏

Georgia and Zack’s Redleaf Wedding was perfect beyond words. It was intimate, personal, emotional and heartfelt. Their vows to each other during the ceremony were beautifully honest and detailed, and had every guest on the edge of their seat (or wiping away tears!) It was so lovely to capture such genuine emotion throughout the day.

One big long table on the garden verandah (immaculately decorated by Chloe) played host for the ultimate feast prepared by Fennel & Co. The night unfolded with speeches, banter over dinner, a father daughter dance that had everyone weeping and so many memories made.

Kind words from Georgia & Zack

“Mel is not only an amazing photographer but such a lovely human being. She was great to deal with all through the planning process. Responsive and thoughtful throughout all our questions and updates via email and video call. It was so amazing to be photographed by her on our big day. So many of our friends and family complemented on how wonderful she was. We felt so comfortable in front of the camera with her. Highly recommend! Thank you Mel!”

Kat & Beau | Private Property Wedding

Kat & Beau’s Private Property Wedding

Two big things rocked the wedding industry in 2022 – Rescheduled wedding Dates… and La Niña.

Like many couples planning weddings in 2021, Kat and Beau found themselves scrambling to replan their entire wedding after their original date and venue were impacted due to covid restrictions.

Fortunately, Plan B was Kat’s parent’s home, which was absolutely stunning! Surrounded by serene bush, with lush lawns and a grand pool area – it was perfect. You could really tell it meant the world to Kat’s parents to host such a special event at their home. It must have been really lovely for them to add such special memories to those that had already been made there over the years.

*La Niña enters the chat*

Like the panic of rescheduling a wedding isn’t enough. In the week prior to the wedding, it rained non-stop – the rain was relentless. The area where the marquee was going to be set up had turned into a mud pit. With more rain forecast for the following days, there was a last minute rush to make the marquee suitable in the event of even more rain. It seemed like poor Kat and Beau couldn’t catch a break.

With the weather outlook for the day looking like we were in for another downpour – my gumboots and raincoat were packed. I can’t remember who it was exactly, but someone had mentioned the old wives tale of putting a broom in a tree to stop the rain. Look, I don’t know how true this is, but what I do know is that it was meant to pour and all we had was the tiniest sprinkle of rain! What a relief!

Onto the celebration!

One of my favourite things about Kat & Beau’s wedding was that right after the ceremony they poured their champagne tower and went straight into an hour of celebrating, eating, drinking and catching up with their guests, leaving their family and wedding party photos until later in the afternoon. They were able to catch up with everyone, enjoy themselves and eat all the delicious canapes prior to heading off for photos. Isn’t that what it is all about?

The day unfolded perfectly, as if it was always meant to be. After so many months of stress, they danced the night away in the marquee without a worry in the world.

Kind words from Kat & Beau

“Mel I wish I could give you 100 stars on this platform!! We absolutely adored having you around us on our wedding day!

I knew the second I found Mel's profile on instagram after I got engaged that she was the photographer I HAD to have. Natural, beautiful bright light, candid... this was exactly the style we were going for! And boy did she deliver (and deliver quickly!). We got the most beautiful sneak previews the next day after our wedding, and about 30 photos 5 days later. I am completely obsessed with them!!! Her photos made me feel all the emotions from our day all over again. We've had so many compliments about how beautiful our photos are. I can't thank you enough for them Mel - you truly have an amazing talent!

In the lead up to our day Mel was organised, easily contactable, happy to assist with any questions and so friendly and warm. She was such a friend and support when our wedding couldn't go ahead on our first attempt due to COVID.

We also booked Mel for an engagement shoot - mostly for my husband who hates the camera. I still don't know how you do it Mel - but you made us both feel so comfortable.

Her photos are absolutely divine. I would recommended Mel 1000000000x to anyone looking to get married.”

Kaelah & Daniel | Wallalong House Wedding

Kaelah & Daniel’s Wallalong House Wedding - Hunter Valley

This was the kind of wedding I dream about. This is what you get when you cross Wallalong House, one of the most beautiful venues in the Hunter Valley, with a big bunch of legends!

Kaelah & Dan were one of my couples that were affected by Covid and had to reschedule their original date. By the time their new date rolled around, weddings were beginning to return to normal. What really stood out to me on the day was how grateful everyone was to be together and celebrate after everything over the past few months.

All of their guests were so genuinely ecstatic for them, and I think it says a lot about who they are as people. Kaelah and Dan are surrounded by so much love and support. One of Kaelah's bridesmaids had even travelled from the UK and went through 2 weeks of hotel quarantine to be by her best friend's side – incredible!

Everything about this day was beautiful! Kaelah's dress was gorgeous, and the deep tones in the flowers went perfectly with the bridesmaid's dresses.

With Kaelah being a huge Harry Potter fan, I'm going to run with the theory that the Hogwarts House colours inspired her colour theme for her bridesmaids.

Kaelah and Dan had already won me over with their love of Harry Potter. I didn't think it was possible to love them anymore until Kaelah emerged with a cheeky dress change to bust a move to Queen's Don't Stop Me Now as their first dance.

Covid has meant that many of my couples have needed to reschedule, and I can't imagine the stress and disappointment they feel to have all of their plans turned on their head. But the one thing I can say is that covid rescheduled weddings hit differently. Everyone is just so happy to be able to come together and celebrate after not being able to for so long. All of my couples have said to me that it was worth the wait.

Zoe & Luke | The Woodhouse Wedding

Zoe & Luke -The Woodhouse Wedding - Wollombi

Zoe and Luke's wedding day was full of all the good stuff!! Good people, good vibes and beautiful styling. I've shared a few images of their day on Instagram, and it's now been featured in a number of publications. Everyone has gone nuts for the styling and Zoe's dress! – and it's easy to see why!

Perched on top of a hill in the middle of a bush, The Woodhouse is an absolute masterpiece! If you've seen the building in real life, you know what a treat for your eyes it is. I can just imagine that Luke, a builder with a love of design, would have been in awe when he saw the building for the first time.

We were blessed with soft, overcast light on the day, which worked so well with the florals, styling and ethereal feel. I felt like a child at Christmas when I saw the trees along the driveway were flowering! Something that happens for only a few weeks each year. It was like it was meant to be with how perfectly they complimented everything.

Zoe and Luke are surrounded by amazing friends and family. Within 5 minutes of arriving, it felt like I'd know Zoe's girls for a lifetime, and I was ready for Zoe's mum to adopt me by the end of the night! The boys had me in stitches all day, and I loved that they didn't take it too seriously and kept the vibe upbeat.

The reception was really relaxed and intimate, with some hilarious speeches and lots of tears (mainly from Luke's dad). To kick off the night, Jesse from Brew Bike rode up the driveway with his mobile espresso martini bike, and within minutes, he was swarmed by thirsty guests.

Lou & Jack | Stonehurst Wedding

LOU & JACK’S WEDDING - STONEHURST - HUNTER VALLEY

Imagine this...

You've planned this day for over a year. Your guests have travelled from all over the country to celebrate with you. You've booked the most incredible venue. You'll be having dinner outside with all of your favourite people together, under the stars and festoon lights. The tables are set with gorgeous flowers, the jam favours are out (made from fruit from your own garden!) and the tables are looking incredible. You can't wait for everyone to come together on this balmy summer evening. Then you check the weather forecast... Rain.

Jack was not having a bar of it! I think everyone was a little worried. But Jack wasn't. He made the call to forge ahead with their outdoor reception despite the threat of rain, and boy, I'm glad they did! Luckily the rain didn't eventuate, and it was the most amazing evening, just as they had imagined.

When I met up with Lou and Jack to talk about their plans, Jack mentioned a tree he really wanted to include in some photographs. I was thinking "oh yeah, one of the big trees on the property at Stonehurst." But no. This was a huge dead tree on the side of the road. Our plan was "we'll just wing it!". So we all piled into cars and drove to the location of the tree. It turned out it was on someone's property. So what does Jack do? He starts jogging up to the owner's house to ask them if we can get some photos with their tree (so committed!). As we were waiting for Jack to return, a car pulled up in the driveway. It was the owners of the property, and they were more than happy to have us and welcomed us with open arms. Jacks effort had paid off!

I feel like the "Jack's Tree" adventure is exactly how Lou and Jack look at life.

Lou's Dad mentioned during his speech that if Lou wanted to do something, she threw herself in, body and soul.

Jack and Lou have worked hard in their careers; they have travelled the world, bought their own home and worked so hard to live their best life. They are surrounded by beautiful friends and family. The types of people Lou and Jack have around them really says a lot about who they are.

Lou had worked away for months during the lead up to the wedding. I could feel the happiness radiating out of her as she looked around at all of their friends and family, appreciating every moment they were together.

I knew it was an absolute banger when we were all on the dance floor, and I glanced at my watch and realised I'd completely lost track of time and should have finished an hour ago!
What a day!

Katy & Dave | The Anchorage Wedding

Katy & Dave’s Wedding - The Anchorage - Port Stephens

“This is the best wedding I've ever been to!”
- Quote from one of Katy & Dave’s wedding guests

Katy and Dave knew exactly what they wanted for their day. The dress code was formal, but the vibes were far from it. A day bathed in the sun by the seaside. Bright colours, tuxedos, white roses and palm fronds. Cocktails and oysters on the lawn. Champagne flowing, long tables and share platters on a balmy summer evening by the water. The perfect combination of casual but organised.

Traditionally, most brides take their husband's last names... not Katy! When we met up before their day, we were talking about the upcoming name change. Katy and Dave had decided to combine parts of both or their surnames and come up with the brand new surname. Katy said to me "I was never going to take any mans' last name" (you go girl!).

I'm sure it was no surprise to their guests that Katy didn't just do a speech... she performed a rap song. And by performed a rap song I mean she wrote, rapped and grooved to her own entirely new version of 'What a Man' - all about Dave. Not to be outdone... Dave had something special up his sleeve…

Flashback to when Katy and Dave had been dating for a year...

Katy surprised Dave with a guitar for his birthday, but not just any guitar. It was the same type of guitar that Will Ferrell played in Dave's favourite movie 'Stranger Than Fiction'. Months and years went by, and Katy hadn't noticed any guitar playing... It became a little bit of a running joke between Katy and Dave, about how Dave had never picked up the guitar or learnt how to play it.

Now back at the reception...

Dave was wrapping up his speech, and his groomsmen appear with some instruments... they hand Dave his guitar. Dave and his groomsmen then go on to perform a cover of 'Stand By Me'. Little did Katy know, Dave had planned to blow her socks off on their wedding day and had secretly been learning how to play his guitar. I think Katy's face says it all. She was so shocked and but also so proud of him.

Katy and Dave took the gamble with their dream of an outdoor dance floor, and boy did it pay off. They had a roaming sax player who had everyone partying like their life depended on it.

Katy & Dave are full of so much life. They are bold, creative and have this kind of 'grab life by the balls' attitude. They love hard and play harder, and I love that.

Lani & Dan | Enzo Wedding

Lani & Dan’s Wedding - Enzo Weddings at Ironbark Hill - Hunter Valley

I expected to arrive to torrential rain at Lani and Dan's Enzo wedding. I can remember this day so clearly, it was flogging down rain on the coast but luckily for us, the rain system never made it's way up the valley. It looked as though it could have poured at any moment, we were surrounded by dark clouds. It was almost like Pokolbin was in its own little world, sheltered from the rain.

Lani and her girls got ready at Corunna Station Homestead. The Homestead is amazing, it's like something you'd see in 'Country Style' magazine or on my Pinterest board under 'Dream House'. So, if you like country style farmhouses, your eyes are in for a treat.

Dan and the boys entered the ceremony to their own song. Can you imagine, busting through the chapel doors to Fatboy Slim's - Right Here, Right Now, blaring as loud as your Grandma can handle. Something that I love about Enzo is that just like the girls, they make sure the boys get their moment too. Having the boys enter to their own song broke the ice in the room and had everyone smiling and cheering before the ceremony began.

Lani and Dan's sweet Hungarian Vizsla Réka made an appearance, stopping by for a few quick photos with Mum and Dad. She was pretty keen on sniffing out the kangaroo poo, but we managed to squeeze a few shots in between sniffs.

I feel like I have never laughed so hard in my life than when I was spending time with Lani, Dan and their wedding party. I wish I could tell you what we were laughing about, but it was so hilariously inappropriate.

Alissa & Liam | Tocal Homestead Wedding

Alissa & Liam’s Wedding - Tocal Homestead - Hunter Valley

It doesn’t matter how many weddings I photograph at Tocal Homestead, it just never gets old. It’s one of my all time favourite venues.

Alissa and Liam were married at Tocal Homestead on a sweltering November day. The air that day was so thick with smoke from the summer bushfires, and there was next to no wind. I can't even imagine how uncomfortable both Alissa and Liam would have been with Alissa in a big dress with so many layers, and of course, Liam in his suit. But not once did I hear them complain, and they didn't let the weather conditions impact the vibe of their day.

One of the moments from their day that I remember so vividly was when I arrived to start photographing the girls. Alissa was sitting with her Dad, just talking. This might not sound like a big deal. But I've never walked in to start shooting, and everyone is ready and so relaxed. Or with enough time that the bride even has a spare minute to sit and connect with her Dad. It was really so special.

Once Alissa was dressed, she nervously waited for her Dad to come up the stairs to see her. This moment unfolded so naturally. And so unhurried. It was as if time stopped when they embraced. I am quite sure Alissa will cherish this moment with her parents forever, and I am so grateful I was there to capture it!

This moment happened because there was space in the day for it to happen. By inviting space in your day, it gives you time to spend with family, to talk and to mingle. Time to slow down and take it all in and be present!

This is where the magic happens!

You can imagine if Alissa was rushing to finish her hair and makeup, rushing to get dressed or rushing to get out the door to the ceremony, this moment would not have been able to take place.

When I first met Alissa and Liam at their engagement session, Liam told me how much it would mean to him to be able to get some cows in the background of some of their photos. (Liam is a soon to be qualified Vet with a small business breeding Angus Cattle, so cows are his passion!). I said I would see what I can do ha! You could imagine how excited they were as I lead them out to the paddock right on sunset, only to find that all of Tocal's cows were perfectly positioned in the paddock. It was almost as though the cows knew this was a big deal. I am sure Alissa and Liam felt like they were the only two in the whole world when we danced around in that paddock as the sunset.

I just admire Liam and Alissa so much. Their love for each other is so special. They simply adore each other, and it shows in the way they look at each other when no one else is watching. Their wedding day was so focused on their love for each other, their supportive parents and the beautiful relationships they share with their friends and extended family.

Jordan & Matt | Stables of Somersby Wedding

Jordan and Matt’s Stables of Somersby Wedding - Central Coast

I knew almost instantly that this day was going to be a cracker.

The Stables of Somersby was the ultimate choice for Jordan and Matt's wedding. Preparations, ceremony, photos and reception all in the one place. (This is the secret to a stress-free day with the best vibes!). An absolute dream to shoot at, a beautiful rustic barn with accommodation upstairs. Perfect for a little spy on your guests as they arrive at the ceremony! No need for travel meant there was plenty of time to catch up with all of their favourite people.

Let me paint the picture for you - A huge sweet and savoury buffet table (Can you tell I'm easily won over with food haha). A drinks van combined and an espresso martini bike, serving as many drinks as you could handle. And a band that quite literally had every soul up dancing like their life depended on it. Then throw in a few vows and a some happy tears... Matt's reaction to Jordan walking down the aisle might just be every girl's dream come true!

All of their guests gathered together. They listened to the speeches so intently and hanging onto every word. They teared up at all the emotional bits, and roared and cheered at all the good bits. Tales of Jordan's alter ego Patricia (who I've heard loves dancing on tables), and how Matt and Jordan met way back in year 7 in High School. Jordan's passion for Aldi and Matt's passion for cats gave everyone a good laugh. And how the first time Matt's sister was introduced to Jordan, she was up singing "I Touch Myself" at Karaoke night at Wangi Pub! What a first impression!

Matt and Jordan, you are incredible. Thank you for all the laughs and the invite to the party of the year!

Jess & Tone | Tocal Homestead Wedding

JESS AND TONE’S TOCAL HOMESTEAD WEDDING - HUNTER VALLEY

“Just like Logan and Veronica, Alex and Piper and Hamish and Zoe. You and I were made for each other” - Tone

There was something extra special about this day. Maybe it was the overwhelming anticipation of FINALLY being legally recognised to marry after so many years together.

Tocal Homestead was the perfect choice for Jess & Tone’s day. Away from the hustle of Sydney where they live and work. A place to be relaxed with guests surrounded by the beauty of the countryside. Jess's dad pointed out that the theme of Tocal Homestead was all Tone. And that if Jess had her way it would have been at the Blacktown RSL ha!

Jess & Tone's bridesmaids (yes, all 10 of them!) were given a colour brief to choose from for their gowns. The wedding day was the first time they had put them all on together and DAMN! Don't they look incredible!

Tone told a story in her speech about a friend who once commented that they look at each other like their relationship is still new. Like they are as obsessed with each other as though they have just started dating. I could see how much love and respect they have for each other by the way they looked at each other when no one else was looking. They are each other's number one, best friends and ultimate cheer squads in life.

One thing I could pick up from Jess and Tone was that they love to make each other feel special and always go the extra mile. As Jess and Tone moved towards the dance floor for their first dance a voice played over the speakers "Ladies and Gentlemen, here's a message from Delta Goodrem"... Jess had organised a special message from the one and only Delta, before they danced to her cover of "I Believe In A Thing Called Love". Everyone was so surprised and blown away!!

Tone had a little surprise up her sleeve too! A few months before the wedding day, I received an email from Tone (strategically being sent from her work email) the subject was "a surprise!" I knew this was going to be good! Tone wanted to organise a wedding album for Jess. Together we designed the album, matching the colours to their style and making sure every image was the perfect recap of their day. I am happy to report that the surprise was a total success, and they both loved how it turned out! I had the best day capturing this wedding.

Days like this make me ask myself "how is this my job!?"

Jess and Tone’s personalised message from Delta Goodrem!

Kind words from Jess and Tone:

“There are not enough positive words in this world to adequately review our experience with Stories With Mel. Where do I start? Mel has an incredible talent for capturing your wedding day in the most beautiful photos imaginable. Not a moment goes unmissed with Mel. She sees it all and captures it all. Her passion for natural light is overwhelmingly evident in her stunning photos and you will get the perfect blend of candid and posed photos - removing all elements of cheesy you can find with some photographers.

Not only is she talented, be she is also one of the loveliest people you will ever meet. She has so much energy and will make you, your bridal party and guests feel so comfortable and at ease. We honestly had so many people tell us so genuinely how great she was on the day.

If you are looking for absolutely top quality wedding photos that will make you tear up every single time you look at them, and take you back to that moment in time, Mel is your girl.”

Chelsea & Sophie | Port Stephens Wedding

Chelsea & Sophie’s Surprise Wedding - Murray’s Brewery - Port Stephens

“Two brides are better then one, come and join us for some fun”

These words were the very first thing Sophie and Chelsea’s guests saw as they arrived to what they thought was their engagement party.

Sophie and Chelsea planned their surprise wedding from 800km away, without a single friend or family member finding out. Pretty impressive huh?

I just can’t even begin to explain how amazing the reactions were from Sophie and Chelsea’s family and friends. I thought my heart was going to burst. It was such a joy seeing everyone so genuinely ecstatic and emotional at the thought of them finally being able to be legally married.

The most important thing to them on their wedding day (besides allll the wine haha), was spending quality time with their guests celebrating, catching up and dancing the night away. They were happy to just spend 10 mins away together post ceremony to soak it all in and have a few photographs together, then we went straight back to the party

Kind words from Chelsea & Sophie

Mel, OH.MY.GOD, what more can we say?!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you…for everything!

You were hands down the best photographer we could have chosen. You understood our vibe and the style of photos we wanted, you were so efficient at actually taking the photos, and whilst the majority of the time we didn’t even notice you, oddly enough you seemed to be everywhere. You made us feel so comfortable and at ease, and whilst we gave you the complete reigns in respect to our couple photos, you took control and thought so quickly on your feet. We’ve only received our preview photos back (mind you 3 days later-once again, very efficient), and SHUT.THE.FRONT.GATE they are ah-maz-ing!!!!

You captured everyones reaction to the surprise and the quality is beyond what we ever could have imagined. You (and Sam from Hunter Valley Videos) worked perfectly together and we honestly cannot thank you enough. Every single one of our guests complimented the way you worked, and since seeing the photos, everyone has contacted us to tell us how amazing they are. We had the best day ever, which is evident through your photos, and words cannot describe how thankful we are.

Love, The Powers

Milly & Mark | The Woodhouse Wollombi Wedding

MILLY & MARK’S WEDDING - THE WOODHOUSE - WOLLOMBI

Mark and Milly's wedding day was unapologetically them. Free of fuss and rigid formalities. The Woodhouse Wollombi was the perfect location, nestled amongst the mountain ranges with zero phone reception. As Milly’s Dad described it, a place in the middle of nowhere with no phone reception is Mark & Milly’s idea of a good time.

We started the day with a forecast of rain. The umbrellas were stacked by the door and the ceremony plan B was being considered but luckily not a drop of rain fell! It was the most spectacular afternoon on the lawn at The Woodhouse, with a huge grazing table, lawn games and the champagne was well and truly flowing!

Highlights of their day were meeting their dog Ted (who I’d heard so much about!) Their ‘un-wedding’ 70's style Toyota Landcruiser wedding car and a ROCK band for their reception. Oh and this hilarious moment during their ceremony that left everyone in stitches, celebrant Mel retelling the story of how they got engaged on the Caribbean Coast of Columbia (just one of 7 countries they have travelled to together).

In Milly’s own words: “We did a huge day hike in Tayrona National Park on the Caribbean Coast of Colombia. It was one week into our 2.5 months in South America. We finally reached the beach, sat down and started making sandwiches, when I looked up and saw two people near the water, embracing each other while a bunch of people were looking on. "HAHA! MARK LOOK, I THINK THESE TWO GOT ENGAGED - I CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING WORSE THAN THAT HAPPENING IN PUBLIC!"

Mark went quiet. As we were about to leave, his bag fell open, and I offered to pick up the socks. He snapped and said "NO, I'll get it" It was a hot day, I shrugged it off and didn't worry that he was a bit cranky. The next night, while we were alone in our little cabin, he proposed!”

This was such an awesome day, with some of the funniest moments I've ever experienced at a wedding. Enjoy!

Kinds Words from Mark and Milly:

Where do I start... We just received our incredible gallery of photos from our wedding at The Woodhouse in Wollombi. I feel silly because I shouldn’t be in disbelief. I knew from the start that she’d be the best in the business. But woah.
Mel helped us through the process, and made us all feel so relaxed and at ease on the day. She was a delight to have there as not just a photographer, but I promise she’ll become your friend, too.
Mel put so much effort into keeping us all on track and sticking to our timeline, but also had the greatest suggestions for hilarious photos!
Thank you Mel, you have literally made our day unforgettable, and we are so so glad we chose you to capture the most special day of our lives.
Lots of love, the Bradys

ALLISON & ANTHONY | NEWCASTLE ENGAGEMENT SESSION

Allison & Anthony’s Engagement Session - Redhead Beach - Newcastle

You simply cannot beat an afternoon at the beach, and it’s even better when you spend it with people that feel like old friends!

Allison and Anthony were bloody naturals in front of the camera! They share the most beautiful connection with each other and were so happy to just go with the flow and have a laugh together.

I absolutely love the lighting in this shoot, matched with Allison and Ant’s chemistry and effortless style.

KIND WORDS FROM ALLISON & ANTHONY:

“MEL!!!!!

You are amazing, we absolutely are blown away. Thank you so much. Even Anthony the non believer loves them.

We are so excited to have you as our photographer thank you for making it such a beautiful experience so far. It means so much to be able to be ourselves and totally comfortable with you.

Bring on the wedding!”

Nerida & Michael | Newcastle Wedding

Nerida & Michael’s Wedding - Cooks Hill & The Hood - Newcastle

Ever seen a wedding at The Hood Milk Bar at The Junction?……me neither

The Hood is one of my favourite places in Newcastle, so naturally when Nerida told me that her and Michael had it picked out for their reception I was sooo keen to see it all jazzed up as a wedding venue!
With their ‘Til Death’ custom neon sign and bold coloured styling and florals, they transformed the space and it looked incredible! I love that it was just Nerida and Michael to a tee.

The threat of torrential rain loomed all day with the rain due to kick in around the time Nerida & Michael’s cermony was scheduled. Luckily it held off just in time to hold the ceremony and do the rounds to greet their guests.

As we set off to Cooks Hill for location shots the rain had well and truly set in. We dashed between terrace houses and shop fronts and despite the rain we had loads of fun and squeezed in some champagne poppin’ before heading back to the reception at The Hood and partying the night away.
